Furuno Fishfinders and GPS Fishfinders

Furuno, world-renowned manufacturer of marine electronics, was honored with four awards at the prestigious 2005 National Marine Electronics Association Convention in Naples, FL. A renovation of the awards program took place this year, resulting in a significant reduction of award categories from 24 to 8. Additionally, a new requirement was put in place, requiring nominated products to have been introduced no earlier than within the last year. Furuno won half of the awards and was recognized by the NMEA more than any two manufacturers combined. To date, Furuno has received a total of 160 such awards since 1971.

Taking top honors in the Radar category for the thirtieth consecutive year was Furuno with the 1800/1900 NavNet vx2 series of radars. Each radar in this series is a workhorse, offering maximum performance in a compact and user-friendly 10.4-inch color LCD display package. Each Radar in the NavNet vx2 series allows flexibility to create a variety of bridge configurations, including single, dual and even tri or quad-stations, utilizing an Ethernet Hub. NavNet vx2 is completely component based, so if you need to add a sounder, GPS/WAAS, weather fax or a remote depth display, each component can be added to the network through a single cable and then accessed from any NavNet display. Each unit also has standard NMEA0183 ports that allow it to be connected to other NMEA0183 electronics. In addition, the 10.4-inch color NavNet displays have the capability to display external video on screen and to send video out. Receiving the award for Best Fish Finder was the Furuno GP7000F/NT. This combo chart plotter/fish finder was designed for a variety of vessels desiring both fish finder and charting capabilities. The fish finder function graphically depicts underwater conditions, such as fish schools and seabed. The unit is a dual frequency 50/200 kHz with high output power of 600 or 1,000 Watts. The information can be displayed full screen on the 16:9 aspect ration wide screen or split screen with the chart. The GP7000F/NT utilizes C-MapNT Max charts. Winning in the new category of Navigation, is the GP1920C NavNet vx2 Chart Plotter. The GP1920C offers either C-MapNT Max or Navionics Gold cartography options on its user-friendly 10.4-inch color LCD display. Because the GP1920C is part of the NavNet vx2 family, it can be used as a second station in a network allowing it to display Radar and Sounder information when connected to the network. Like its NavNet vx2 Radar counterpart, it has standard NMEA0183 ports that allows it to be connected to other NMEA0183 electronics. It also has the capability to display external video on screen and send video out. Another new category for 2005 is the Marine Specialty Award. Because of the wide array of marine electronics on the market today, this category was created for the non-traditional type of electronics. Furuno was awarded the Marine Specialty Award for the MU155C Marine Monitor. This ultra bright 15” color LCD monitor features a wide range of interface capabilities that will accommodate virtually any marine display needs. The monitor features 2 RGB inputs, 1 DVI-D input, and 3 NTSC/PAL video inputs. They are most commonly used as the main or remote display for marine electronics such as black box Radars, sounders, sonar and NavNet. They can also be used for displaying security cameras, video equipment, computers, etc.  “Furuno is extremely proud to bring home half of the NMEA awards this year, “ commented Jeff Kauzlaric, Furuno Advertising & Communications Manager. “These awards show that not only is Furuno being recognized for excellent products, but also a phenomenal team of dedicated employees that makes Furuno products, sales and service second to none."
